Welcome to our
journal page...
This is what we are learning
in kindergarten!

Phonics

We focus on a letter a week
but all letters are introduced by the end of September.
The first semester we will learn letters: l,o,g,h,p,t,a,n,m,i,s,and f.
Second semester, we will focus on r,k,b,u,z,c,e,y,d,v,j,x,w, and q.
In addition to letters and sounds,
we are also learning sight words.
Five new words are introduced every two weeks
and remain on our Word Wall throughout the year.
Each Monday, your child will
come home with a "Word Wall Strip".
It contains the new words introduced.
Students are encouraged to practice on
these words at home weekly until mastery is reached.

Math

We begin the year with numbers and quickly
begin using our Calendar Folders each day.
It is a great way to keep all students involved
in the large group activities we do each day.
We will be working in Math Journals as well.
We will be working on simple story problems
and how to form number sentences.

*Please note: This is just a summary
of what we will be doing.
We work on so many skills
each week in every subject area,
more than I can list here,
but I thought it would be helpful
for kindergarten parents to be
able to reinforce the
new skills introduced each week!
